Huggies vs. Pampers
Remember when diapers had more "padding" for boys in front and more "padding" in the middle for
girls? There is a discussion going around local play grounds suggesting that Huggies are better at
controlling leaks for boys and Pampers are better for girls.
Any thoughts on this?

I did abide by the product distinction "for girls" or "for boys". The product distinction was most evident when the diapers were worn overnight. Occasionally, I'd buy a girl's package by mistake, and I'd see more front leaks when my son would wake up in the morning.
Pampers seemed to be a little too contoured to offer the needed area of protection against wetness or #2's (literally, the square inches of diaper material).
The Huggies selling point for me was the stretchy barrier around the legs: this feature seemed to be the greatest protection against the messiest #2 episodes. Saved a lot of extra laundry this way.

Pampers' Premium "Cruisers" were rated #1 by Consumer Reports recently and they are truly the best in our experience (and we've tried them *all*). :)
On the other hand, Pampers "Baby-Dry" should be renamed "Barely-Dry", they seem to keep our two boys, well, barely dry (and thus they get rashes).
My non-scientific based-on-two-baby-boys ages 2 and 3 ratings are as follows:
#1 Pampers Cruisers
#2 Huggies Supreme
#3 Huggies Convertibles
#4 Luvs
#5 Kroger diapers
#6 Pampers Baby-Dry
#7 Huggies (regular)
Hope this helps,
K

The only disposable that contained him (we discovered after much trial and error) was the Huggies Ultratrim line. He's now almost two years old and we recently switched to Pampers. He's not nearly so prolific a pee-er now, so the switch to the cheaper Pampers has been fine for us.
As a side note, the Pampers have Sesame Street characters on them now. This has been a huge help in getting my son to come to me when I need to change his diaper. :)

'Nika said...Pampers Baby-Dry are the best diaper we've found for my 10 month old son. He never leaks in those, even 10 hours at a time (overnight sleeping). Huggies (Ultratrim, I think) gave us poop blowouts when we tried them. And he never got a diaper rash until a few weeks ago when we tried the President's Choice brand - going back to Pampers eliminated it.

Joy said...I like Luvs for generic but I found out that if you hold on Luvs to a Huggies brand they are smaller. I like Huggies how they fit this childs but much better. Her butt hang out of Luvs same size. I used Pampers Cruisers too with my other child and they are very nice just a tad more money. I think Luvs are just as good as pampers but since I got to go up a size with them I switched to Huggies maybe next time if Pampers Cruisers has a sale we will try them but I would not say I am a pampers or huggies fan I love them both. I just don't like the pampers baby dry they aren't all that. 3 girls here and all can use Huggies, Luvs or Pampers Cruisers just fine. I will not buy little suzy, white cloud or kroger brands Generics give our children rashes. After two times use and trust me I change them right away no can do.

Nikki said...Pampers cruisers and swaddlers have been great. I just bought Huggies for my son and so far they have done a miraculous job. So I don't know which is best between the two yet. I know that pampers baby dry are about the worst they could come up with. My son leaked with the first few wet ones, and then overnight was worse. I wouldn't recommend Baby dry.

NathiMOM said...I have used huggies, luvs, white cloud, target brand and Pampers...conclusion: Pampers Cruisers are #1!!!!
Huge problem though: A lot of moms are buying the cruisers only to find that they are not the same-the tabs don't stay stuck and they leak very easily. At this point I dont know if Pampers is phasing them out (which makes no sense since they are the best), changing the diapers or if these packs are old versions that are popping up in stores from old inventories. Either way at this point I have run out of places to buy them (even Babies R Us) and have been looking for an alternative ever since. Anyone else notice this?

Tammy said...The rumor is true. I didn't know it until recently. Everytime we try Huggies with my daughter they leak. I mentioned this to some mom's at my son's school and they all matter of factly said that Huggies leak for girls and to use Pampers. The opposite worked for my son. Huggies was the best for him.

Generic store brand (Safeway)
But god, not Huggies. Huggies diapers have leaked 9 out of 10 times we tried them on my son. It was so bad that we had to return the rest of the box for a refund.
Our experience is that generic brands are good for day time use. But Pampers diapers have superior absorbtion for sleeping through the night. My 2 cents.
