The Backyardigans
Categories: Media
Email ThisQuite by accident I found a new kid's show my whole family loves. At the end of Play With Me Sesame on Noggin, they played an animated music video "Riding the Range" by The Backyardigans. I really liked it, so I did a search online and found that The Backyardigans is a new 30-minute show on Nick Jr. and Noggin. The first episode aired mid-November.
The Backyardigans is about five very imaginative preschool friends (left to right: Tyrone, Tasha, Pablo, Uniqua and Austin) who embark on amazing 3-D epic adventures in their backyards (of course). Each episode features original Broadway-caliber music and choreographed dancing spanning a variety of genres including Big Band, Reggae, Rockabilly, Bossa Nova, and Hip-Hop.

Our son loves this show too. He even sings the songs while he is playing. "Riding the Range" is his favorite.

hear, hear! we love the backyardigans, too, and it's one thing that everett and i can definitely agree on. i get the silliest songs stuck in my head from his tv-watching - but these are fantastic, and worth playing over and over again. and funny, we, too, discovered it by an accidental tv-left-on morning. (in fact, today was one of those mornings so i could sleep in ;)

The Backyardigans is an outstanding new show just for preschoolers. It has replaced my son's old favorites Dora the Explorer and Blue's Clues. I also enjoy watching it. I am amazed by the animation. The characters are sweet and they use tons of imagination.
A show that encourages kids to play imaginatively together without violence, real or imaginary, and without video games is at the top of my list.
I recommend the Backyardigans to anyone with small children. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

I also come on this show by accident. We do not subscribe to cable, but the show came on our CBS affiliate on Saturday morning. The first episode we watched was about the Yeti where a funk based groove kept me interested the entire show. We looked it up online and found more episodes. We love everyone so far and can't wait for the next to come out. We also got my Mother-in-law hooked. I can't wait for a DVD to come out with an instructional dance video like they have online. My 2 1/2 year old daughter just loves them!

I don't know who loves this show more, my kids, my husband or me! It's an adorable and refreshing break from the older shows. The characters are cute, but the music is the best part!

My kids aged 20 months and 4 years LOVE this show, especially the singing. I have to say my husband and I are big fans of the video "Pirate" and find ourselves singing that cute little tune. Can't wait for the videos and DVDs. Love the animation and creativity of the charaters.

This show is wonderful. My 3 year old neice gets up and dances with the gang everytime the music starts. It is so great to have a show that teaches children to use their imagination and all the worlds that come to life when you do. Anxiously waiting for the DVD as well!

My 2.5 year old daughter just loves this show. She tries to sing and dance to the songs. It has replaced her favorite show Dora.
She still loves Dora, but now she begs to watch The Backyardigans.

I take care of my 2 year old great-grandaughter and we both love the Backyardigans- we spend a lot of time saying Rah (you other watchers know what that means) to each other and erupting into giggles- It's great to be 2 and 72.

My 2 1/2 year old absolutely loves Uniqua! The young lady who sings the songs is not the speaking voice, which is noticeable! The very talented girl used to sing during Nick Jr promos and was fantastic. I was able to recognize her voice on The Backyardigans because my son did also. She is his favorite, and we will follow her career, which I am certain will be very remarkable!
