The Backyardigans
Quite by accident I found a new kid's show my whole family loves. At the end of Play With Me Sesame on Noggin, they played an animated music video "Riding the Range" by The Backyardigans. I really liked it, so I did a search online and found that The Backyardigans is a new 30-minute show on Nick Jr. and Noggin. The first episode aired mid-November.
The Backyardigans is about five very imaginative preschool friends (left to right: Tyrone, Tasha, Pablo, Uniqua and Austin) who embark on amazing 3-D epic adventures in their backyards (of course). Each episode features original Broadway-caliber music and choreographed dancing spanning a variety of genres including Big Band, Reggae, Rockabilly, Bossa Nova, and Hip-Hop.

Denise said...My boys love Backyardigans too! It's the only thing my 11 month old watches. He loves the music. I wanted to throw him a backyardigans b.day but I can't find anything. I may just buy the CD and let them at least sing along to the songs. I know there is some merchandise on e-bay. I just might have to check it out.

Mary said...We, like others, found the show by accident one day and fell completely in love with it! The music is 'off the hook' and my husband and I love it just as much as our little ones. my 76-year-old mother even loves it and dances with the characters. The computer animation is awesome. They have dance moves that look like real people are dancing. We also love the fact that the names of each of the Backyardigans reflect real names of different cultures in our society today, so that kids watching the show can identify with something on TV 'like them'. I hope Nick Jr. NEVER takes this show off the air. It's too cute, creative, imaginitive and colorful to go by the wayside. I've ordered the CD of songs due out on July 12. Thank you!!!!!

Katy said...For those of you wondering about Uniqua, according to tv.com she is a unique species (hence the name Uniqua). Maybe a dinosaur or an alien? That blew a hole in my theory that, not only are the characters each a different species, they might also each represent a different continent/land mass. Austin (Kangaroo) from Australia, Pablo (Penguin) from Antarctica, Tasha (Hippo) from Africa, Tyrone (Moose) from the Americas (specifically North America), and Uniqua (?) from Europe/Asia landmass.

Dorothy Kiss said...This is a wonderful show, my grandson who will be 2 in September just loves it. Like others, he loves the music and the dancing, he especially likes it when his momma sings all the songs for him! I would love to be able to get some pictures of each character as I am a scrap booker and I have many pictures of the little one sitting watching the show completely entranced! Is there any way to get pictures? Or even a logo for a page header?
Thanks for a truly wonderful show for toddlers and children of all ages - including grandparents!

paule h. said...We love the Backyardigans. We received a CD sample disk in a magazine several months ago. I finally pulled it out and our boys, 1 and 3 just love it, they put it in, listen, sing and dance. Even my husband said, their voices are not anoying! So I checked them out, now we tape it daily to watch over the next day. They are so fun.
About UNIQUA right out of TV TOME at www.tv.com - search for Backyardigans here is what they had listed for her.
UNIQUA: One of a kind.....(Uniqua is her name, and also her species – with her purple skin, pink spots, and dainty antennae, she doesn't look like any other creature on the planet.)
We like this show a lot!
