9-month-old with rare "mermaid syndrome"

is linking to a story about a Peruvian baby, nicknamed "Little Mermaid," who has a extremely rare physical abnormality
called sirenomelia. Babies with sirenomelia are born with
their legs fused together, most not living more than a few hours. Nine-month-old Milagros Cerron will undergo
surgery on February 28th to seperate her legs. She is one of only a handful of the estimated 1-in-60,000 to
100,000 people born with "mermaid syndrome" to have lived this long.

that is so sad...i want to know how the person is born like that...what causes it to be that way...i pray for the family of this little girl
