Dads don't get any respect in parenting books, pschyologists say

dad watching childWe complain about how parenting books don't give dads any respect, and it turns out that it's not all in our heads. Psychologists analyzed 23 of the most popular books on child-rearing and discovered that only 1% of all paragraphs had a mention of fathers and their role with the child. Not pretty. Even worse, dads were seven times as likely to be mentioned in the context of having a problem with the parenting relationship than moms were.

When will parenting books wise up and talk about some of my friends' husbands; the ones who take turns getting up at night; the ones who can't ever plan anything on Thursday night so we can go out without the kids; the ones who take months of paternity leave? How about my husband, who has stayed home with Everett just as much as I have? Let's give daddies some respect!
