Swing your baby to sleep with the Amby Baby Motion Bed
Categories: Money & Work, Safety
When my son Luka was born, Kim and I sprang for an Amby Baby Motion Bed. It was the
single best baby purchase we ever made. I could quote chapter and verse from the Web site about how sturdy it is, how
well it's engineered, yada yada. Not that these things aren't important; obviously, you don't want the
hammock to snap off of its supports while your angel is napping. But outside of safety, parents want to know one thing
about a baby bed: "Will it help my child sleep longer so I have more time to surf the Internet?" And on that
score, the Amby Baby Motion Bed is a winner. Luka slept more soundly in this bed than anywhere else. Once he was
down, nothing short of his screaming siblings could stir him. (Well, besides the poor
kid's seizures - but that's not Amby's fault. This isn't the Miracle Hammock of Jesus, for goodness sakes.)
The bed is manufactured in Australia, but is distributed from Minnesota, so fear not the shipping costs.

Hi Jay. I gotta tell you, this sounds pretty good from where I'm sitting right now. Can you tell me how this really differs from a regular swing? Owen naps usually in 45-minute stretches during the day, and at night he fights going to sleep (hence my email question to you guys earlier). Since these hammocks are not returnable after purchase, I want to make sure this is the right thing before taking the plunge. Thanks!

Hey- just an FYI- WARNING on the Amby Bed- they are having a problem with the metal spring rubbing against another metal piece. I found out about it in a March 5th forum thread on another site. It was discovered when metal shards were found in a baby's eye (terrible situation). The bed was new & had been in use for a few months only. I called the company myself to find out if this was true & it is- they are redesigning the parts which may not by ready till May (estimate). Many parents had emailed in the forum with the same reports of wear and tear & finding shards or paint in the fabric. Not a risk I am willing to take until they straighten the siutation out. I hope they start advising current users of this problem- seems a recall should be in order. Good Luck.

Jay --
I just wanted to thank you for pointing me out to the Amby bed. My wife and I were hesitant to buy it at first, since Owen is now five-months old and there's no return policy for the bed. Eventually we caved in and decided to get one, since we'd be able to get almost all our money back through Ebay should we hate it.
Owen was sleeping for about 1/2 hour increments for naps and maybe two-hour stretches at night. The first night he slept in the Amby bed, he slept for eight hours straight. Naps are about an hour and a half!
Every night as my wife and I sit and are able to get things done instead of constantly having to try getting Owen to sleep, we spontaneously say, "Amby bed" to each other while the other smiles and nods. Such a simple concept has gone so far. I had already considered the money well spent after the first eight-hour sleeping marathon Owen had.
Thanks for pointing this out to me.

I love our Amby bed. Here is the link to their product enhancement that should take care of the problem mentioned above about metal rubbing together. http://www.ambybaby.com/Articles/Article.asp?ArticleID=4 My daughter has slept in it now for 6 months. She weighs almost 20lbs and we can not say enough about this bed. My lil sis also uses one. With her 1st 2 children she had a traditional crib, but with her 3rd i bought her the Amby and she LOVES it. I have a question about turning over. My daughter has been turning over in it onto her belly now for about 2 months. I thought once she got better at turning back over to her back this problem would fix it's self. On the floor she has no problem getting on her back but in the Amby she rolls to her belly and then can not roll back. Sometimes this is not a problem but other times I think her little arm falls asleep b/c she is lying on it and she will wake up crying in the middle of the night. Also if she is crying when I put her down and she rolls over then she is face down in the bed and crying which is not a good combination. If she is not crying she does not have a problem with breathing when she is face down seeing how the Amby is made to be very "breathable". She has slept through the night since she was a week old and I contribute that to this bed! However I need to know what to do about the rolling over, any suggestions?
