Tom Cruise: psychiatrists are ruining our children
Categories: Health & Safety, Development, Media
A few days after
lambasting Brooke Shields for using Paxil to
treat post-partum depression instead of using vitamins (like any good Scientologist would!), Tom Cruise has lashed
out at the entire psychiatric profession, claiming medication is ruining the nation's youth. "
SAT (exam) scores have gone right down the toilet. The parents are
blaming the teachers, the teachers are blaming the parents and the psychs are putting everyone on drugs." Cruise
also
revealed in an interview with Access Hollywood that his loathing of the psychiatric profession kept
him from entering into marriage counseling with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
I must have missed the part where Cruise scored a degree in psychiatry. Was that before or after Days of Thunder?

My sister is paranoid schizophrenic. She's a very nice and sweet person but when she has a psychotic episode and not on meds, she can be violent. She tried to commit suicide once, tried to stab my mother and tried to burn our apartment. Now she is taking her anti-depressant and anti-psychotic meds and is stable, although there is no cure for the illness. But at least she's not trying to hurt herself of other people. Tom, if you are listening, I will follow your advice, tell my sis to get of the meds and go visit your house in LA and go play with your 2 adopted children. Do you like that idea?

He is an actor, thats all. We are to blame if anybody supports this flaming A-Hole. If Tom was
a laborer, how long would you listen to him. Did this moron even graduate high school. Somebody please kidnap poor Katy and let her dry out somewhere.

ATTORNEY GENERAL BLAST SUES PSYCH DRUG PAXIL FOR FRAUD! 12-18-2005 @ 6:38PM
NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL, ELLIOT SPITZER, SUED THE BRITISH MAKERS OF PAXIL FOR FRAUD, FOR LYING ABOUT IT'S SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS,JUST LAST YEAR.
Are all of you going to hate the attorney general too? I'm interested in hearing what you have to say about this.

Defend this! Tom Cruise is right. We don't launch hate campaigns against people for being for, or against abortion. He has the right to his opinion. If you don't agree, you have the right to use the pills, so go on your way and do it. But stop hating someone because they think it should be a last resort. It probably should.

Boy, are you misinformed. He didn't say they should be used as a last resort. He said they shouldn't be used at all. For some people that is the only way to help them.
With regards to the millions of people that have been or are being treated for mental health problems, I find that his comments where insensitive and potentially hazardous for others who, because of his thoughtless comments will not seek help for their problems.

I'm boycotting further Tom Cruise films for two reasons:
(1) He's a slow-witted prick who thinks that reading some crackpot science fiction author's absurd ramblings qualifies him as insightful, and worse, that as a film star, we care; and
(2) I won't miss any good movies. And has anyone besides me noticed how well Nicole Kidman is doing since freeing herself from his ignorant clutches?

YOU AVOIDED ADDRESSING THE PAXIL FRAUD LAWSUIT 12-18-2005 @ 6:38PM
Nice, you say I'm not infomred, yet you spout out comments against Tom Cruise, and failed to address the NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL SUEING THE BRITISH MAKERS OF PAXIL FOR FRUAD/ FOR LYING ABOUT ITS SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS!
TELL ME, ARE YOU GOING TO BOYCOTT THE ATTORNEY GENRAL'S OFFICE TOO? It appears to me, that Tom Cruise is saying the drugs are dangerous, and the attorney general is suing because they're dangerous/ he seems to be on the same page with the attorney general and you, WHAT PAGE ARE YOU ON?
EXPLAIN THIS ONE, RESPOND-DON'T AVOID IT AND CALL TOM CRUISE NAMES!

Who cares about the New York Attorney General?
Anyone with half a brain know that drugs are dangerous...... dah
This isn't even a debate about Paxil. It's about his comments regarding all mental health issues. It's about the fact that his comments can and will effect weather they seek treatment for their condition. It has to do with Tom Cruise, not Paxil and NOT the N.Y. Attorney General. Try getting on the same page as everyone else.

A scientologist giving medical advice, now that's amusing!
Too bad vitamins didn't save his marriage.

It seems to me that a man who has to find continually younger arm candy in order to prove that he isn't interested in men could use a few vitamins himself.

Yes he says therapy and meds are dead ends, but he also said Brooke Shields is talented. Clearly up is down in Tom's World.

This was just so disappointing to me. It's not that I expected better, but it seems he could have reserved commenting altogether. I have never endured this type of depression before, but having taken medications before and knowing so many others who have benefited... Anyway, preaching to the choir, probably. Dude. Tom, ya need to do a little more research.

As someone working through post-partum issues with my wife, I have to say Mr. Cruise is not helping.
If we approached women on the brink of collapse and told them they need vitamins, not professional medical care and medicine, women and children would die. They are dying. There's already enough of a stigma attached to depression. We don't need yahoos grabbing media attention to spout their personal disdain for proven medical care that saves lives.

I agree with some of you. Disagree with Tom; but the thing is he is push by a strikening force, as you may know scientology all over him like a prison mind, you can't beleive what it is for him; I don't think he realize what he is doing.
But to say that an entertainer don't have to "think and talk"(that I know can be annoying because he has fame and not us, so larger audience) is discriminatory. Some of us aren't doctor or psy, but still we give our opinion here.
I think we should consider this.Even if he is wrong.
My respect.
(Tom, you are way better as an actor, don't let you go too much into this! come on!
(sorry for my poor english level, au revoir)

Sheesh! What a crock. Yes, I'll admit, a lot of America's youth are overmedicated. To say that it's all unnecessary is unfair to all of the people out there that really had no other choice. Uhhh...let's see...suicide or vitamins? Gosh, Tom, what do you think?

The fact is that most children have never seen a psychiatrist...it's all hype by $cientology and anti-pscyh groups that want to take over the market using depressed or mentally ill as their prey. Tommy-boy is no man which is why he feels the need to control everybody else. Leave Brooke alone. Ditto on "Tom's an Idiot."

I'll point out, since it hasn't been mentioned here yet, that both his kids are adopted. He didn't have to watch his beloved wife (at the time) endure the emotional roller coaster after giving birth. He's fortunate to have managed to avoid the whole PPD experience. Some times vitamins, eating well and a healthy dose of exercise just isn't enough.
