Obviously "anonymous", above didn't listen to Tom Cruise in his interview with Matt Lauer. Talk about unintelligent and misinformed. We're not talking about one drug we're talking about the Tom Cruise philosophy that he's dangerously spreading to gullible people using the media as his format. He's not being hated for one drug, he's being chastised for his uneducated comments made about drugs in general and the use of psychiatry by calling it a "Pseudoscience". I think he has Scientology mixed up with psychiatry. Now for the drug scene, yes there are drugs that are problematic, some work for some people, but not all work for all people. There are risk factors for ALL drugs but they still don't outweigh their benefits, which is why Paxil is still out there. Again we're not talking about one drug here but the irresponsible comments made by a complete BOOB who's only credentials are "ACTING".

Stahl, you're the one who is uneducated. Tom Cruise is also a Scientology auditor, which requires extensive study of and training in the causes of mental/spiritual hardship, and their resolution. Psychiatry and psychology do not deal in cause and cure, they deal in symptom identification and suppression - a worthless endeavor when the causes and cures are already known, being used and creating miracles for people every second of every day.

You can flash credentials all day long, and that doesn't make you more educated or an authority. Authority belongs to these who can get results. Psychiatry and psychology have a history of utter failure to find a single cause or cure, so they are not an authority.

As for dumping 100 mentally ill on Tom's doorstep "just for fun", you're pretty sadistic and it shows. Such threats have been a point of blackmail of the psych industry for a long time. If they don't get what they want they'll just drop the people THEY WORSENED or at the very best, failed to help, on everyone else's doorstep. Fine terrorist tactic if you ask me.

Luckily today, we have a growing number of non-drug/non-torture doctors and facilities to take proper care of such people, find the real medical causes for their symptoms and return them to society as functional human beings. I'm sure Tom will gladly help such people over to those doctors and facilities who are anti-drug.

Psychiatry is a true science of which you need a medical degree, not an actor's studio, to practice. Not to mention a long internship amongst mentally ill patients. About taking 100 or so mentally ill patients and putting them on Cruise's doorstep, thats not sadistic, Cruise is saying they can be cured by vitamins, I'm just saying lets see. Its an experiment that Cruise is sure to loose. Unlike you Ism, I have worked with mental patients for over 30 years, you also need to take a trip to a mental hospital to see what these poor souls are like without medication or psychiatric help. Clowns like Cruise can come up with unproven, unscientific rantings that have no bearing whatsoever on the people he's talking about. Why do you think Cruise keeps going for the younger, dumber women? Its because they are the only ones he can shove his nonsense at without their questioning him. Ism you need a reality check also, take the time to visit your local mental hospital and just observe some of the patients before medication or therapy. I predict that Tom Cruise is going to have a nervous breakdown in a couple of weeks. He's going to have a psychotic episode and have hallucinations that the FDA is trying to kill him. Think people. Diabetics monitor and test their blood on a daily basis to correct an insulin and glucose imbalance. When was the last time a doctor tested your brain chemicals?

You don't diagnose a mentally ill patient with a blood test. A regular doctor also cannot diagnose a mentally ill patient. Again you have to be a trained Psychiatrist to do this. Mental illness is not only due to brain chemical deficiencies but also a damaged brain, hereditary, and disease are some causes. Sorry its not cut and dry like blood glucose testing. Thats why there are so many tests that have to be performed and also direct patient consultation with a Psychiatrist. Here the messinger is simply wrong and he shouldn't put his two cents worth where it only makes him look even more ignorant.

Those aren't facts, only scare tactics used to keep individuals from seeking proper medical help. I like the photo's from the 40's and 50's of electro-shock therapy and the lobotomy, of which aren't performed in this modern day, with the exception of electro-shock as a last resort, at the patient's discretion, and the patient is fully sedated, not like the photo shown, sorry its not forced on patients today. Yes there is alot of information on the internet, its too bad alot of it like the above link is just an acculatedum of splinter information, age old, that is used to scare people into not seeking help they may need. I guess thats where Tom Cruise does most of his studying, on the internet, clicking on sites until he finds one that tells him what coincides with his beliefs.

There is no way to test brain chemicals outside of a lab. That's what researchers have done: measure brain chemicals and brain activity with regards to certain conditions. Psychiatrists use symptoms and diagnosis to tell when those conditions are present in others, and make sure that the condition is chronic and doesn't have an immediate cause. (This was how my daughter was diagnosed with chronic anxiety, e.g., as opposed to event-related anxiety.) It's a simple principle: same symptoms, same underlying cause.

That's how science works. It's a far cry from Scientology, which teaches that mental illness is caused by the accumulation of "Body Thetans", little aliens that scattered over the Earth millions of years ago when the aliens dropped H-bombs on our planet.

I whole heartedly agree with Mr. Stahl. Tom Cruise needs a reality check BIG TIME!!! And he has a hell of a nerve talking about children. He adopts kids, divorces his wife and splits from their lives. I sure haven't heard him talk about or even seen pics of him with "his" kids in well over a year. What kind of nonsence is that?
As for his comments on mental health, he dosen't know his ass from a hole in the ground!! My sister suffers from debilitating suicidal depression, without meds. she would not be here alive today!! So there is no way he can justify his comments. When he goes back to school and EARNS a degree in medicine then and only then will I listen anything he has to say in regards to anything medical.
