Men's nipples are great for baby
Categories: Safety, Development
Why do men have nipples?" asked my precocious 3 year-old at the dinner table. None of the guests seemed to know. General consensus was reached that it must have something to do with both male and female bodies evolving from the same prototype. But, I have to admit I had pondered that on occasion.
Low and behold, the answer I was searching seems so simple. According to FatherWorld, a major report published in time for Father's Day, a man's nipple makes a fabulous pacifier. It gives the babes something to suck until Mama and her melons can be located. The Aka Pygmies of northern Congo have been voted, "Best Dads in the World" because they've mastered the masculine art of baby calming by offering their man-boobs to their infants.
I wish my husband had figured that one out.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to disagree :)
My father tells the tale of when my older sister was a baby, and our mother was out somewhere. She was crying softly, but wouldnt stop. He decided the only thing left to do was try to calm her by letting her suck on his nipple as she probably wouldnt be able to tell the difference - aside from the lack of milk.
As soon as she got it in her mouth, she started wailing. He learned his lesson :)

The reason men have nipples is because untill the sixth week of pregnancy all babies are female. On the sixth week the gender of the unborn child either stays as female or changes to male.

Thanks, Mike, for setting the record straight on nipple develpment. But I have to disagree with you that the embryo/fetus "stays" female. The fetus becomes female or male from the original sexless embryo. Maleness is not a further development on femaleness.

Meiera, You are quiet right. I just could't think of what way to put it. Thanks for clearing that up. I hope it was helpfull. I read it in a book last year when my other half was pregnant with our first child.
