Spongebob to sell vegetables
Filed under: Health & Safety: Babies, Nutrition: Health, Media
Spongebob, along with several other Nickelodeon characters, will be appearing on packages of carrots, spinach and citrus fruits, the AP reports. Nickelodeon characters are already marketed to children on less healthy foods, like the sugary cereals my children beg for at the market. The ones which are never on sale, so darn we can't buy them! The move is part of Nickelodeon's attempt through licensing and programming to promote a more balanced lifestyle.
With childhood obesity such an issue in our country and other companies, like Kraft foods changing it's marketing practices and even Cookie Monster changing his cookie loving tune, the move seems timely. Frankly, if Spongebob can get my children excited about spinach, I will weep. Openly.

Ann Adams said...Good for Spongebob. Just hope Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family don't hear about it - they'll organize a boycott. We can't have a gay sponge corrupting our kids.
For the record, I have one who loves spinach and two who will eat any vegetable except that yucky stuff.
