Founders of Brain, Child magazine interviewed on Literary Mama
Email This
How does one start a thoughtful and creative new magazine for parents? Jennifer Niesslein and Stephanie Wilkinson
should know, because that just what they did when they created Brain,
Child magazine in 1999. The magazine took off, and now has more than 30,000 subscribers, with writers
clamoring to be included in the latest issue. "I do think we hit a cultural nerve," said Wilkinson in an interview
found on the Literary Mama site. Wilkinson and Niesslein are former journalists who had babies within six months of
each other. Through many phone and e-mail conversations about parenting, the concept for Brain, Child magazine
was born.
Check out the full interview for more about the magazine, the hard-working ladies who are behind it, and their plans
for the future of Brain, Child.

Am I the only one who finds this magazine completely unreadable? I have tried to love it— even like it—but when my subscription ran out, it didn't even think twice about not renewing it.

Actually, it's the first magazine both my husband and I both read cover to cover. I don't think my husband expected to like it so much--especially since it says it's targeted towards women--but he did.
