Exposing 'all-day, all-night' sickness
Filed under: Your Pregnancy, Health & Safety: Babies
If you're reading this blog, chances are you already know that morning sickness is not just for mornings anymore (or ever). While the nausea of early pregnancy usually is cued by certain foods and smells, it isn't limited to one time of the day - as far as we can tell, the "morning" part is a cruel myth. The San Francisco Chronicle has an excellently-bibliographed article on "the nausea and vomiting of pregnancy" that covers everything from its causes (which no one really has figured out) to potential complications, like hyperemesis gravidarum in which a pregnant woman "can't keep any food or fluids down and can get dehydrated." And I learned something new: evidently famous literary sister Charlotte Brontë died of HG in the 1800s.
