Summer concerts: The Candy Band

This summer, my favorite thing has been day
long playdates and outdoor concerts at our zoo. If you haven't heard of The Candy Band, you're going to want to check them out. Our local zoo hosts a concert each week,
featuring music for kids and adults. There are some 'Kids' bands which, how to put this delicately…make me want to put
hot candle wax in my ears to keep the sound out of my ears. But The Candy Band is different, they are pleasant to
listen to and make children dance and when children dance they get tired and go to bed easily. The Candy Band is made
up of four Detroit area moms who churned out, according to the New York Times, "One of the best kids' music cds of 2003". I went up to talk to the band after the
show and they were busily signing autographs for their small fans and I felt a little like a groupie. A stay-at-home
mom groupie. I ask you, these are musicians who do it for the music and the music only because what kind of band has
stay-at-home mothers as groupies? Boring.
