Tales of minivan love: the Mazda 5

mazda 5Minivans not mini enough for you? Or worse, they remind you that (yes) you are becoming your parents? Maybe you could try the Mazda 5. According to Jeff Sabatini, it drives like a "rather sporty" car; it's easy to mistake for a sporty wagon instead of the dreaded soccer mom vehicle; and best of all, it can easily fit a snowboard. For a man who gave up his motorcycle and his Mazda Miata upon becoming a parent (not to mention his job; his wife is the primary breadwinner), Jeff couldn't be more pleased.

Except, of course, that the Mazda 5 isn't currently available. Models were pulled from dealerships after reports of three engine fires, and while everything's being fixed up, you'll have to wait until sometime in November to buy your micro-minivan with the Miata soul. I'm now adding this to the 2005 Nissan Quest under the title, "cars I would buy used in 2008." Does the Mazda 5 come in black? [via Daddy Types]
