Over-the-top holiday gifts: Cinderella coach bed from PoshTots
Categories: Money & Work
Well, if this don't beat all:
The other day, my husband and I were in the market for a bed for our daughter, Alex. Out of curiosity, we
decided to surf the web to see what was in vogue for bedroom furniture for kids.
Imagine our horror when we found this Cinderella
coach bed at PoshTots. Yes, for prices starting at $47,000
(that's US dollars, people, not pesos), you too can purchase this bed "handcrafted in England of wood and
fiberglass" for your perfect little princess. And lest your other child become jealous, you could always ply him
or her with a mini Ferrari Testerossa, a
steal at a mere $39,950.
According to the website's stated vision of Karen Adams and Andrea Edmunds (the founders of PoshTots), they make these
items available to you, the consumer, so that you can create "an environment where a child can enjoy all the simple
pleasures of being a child." Hmph. Call me cheap, but in my world, a $47,000 bed and a $39,950 electric car
do not simple pleasures make.
I'm just sayin'.

It takes a lot of money to raise a child devoid of an imagination.

Some parents must have forgotten the magic word. It's spelled NO.

Wow.....and THEN you get to shell out extra money for the custom sized sheets (and waterproof matress pad!) - since it's an "oval interior" I seriously doubt there's a standard sized matress in there!

This isn't about what a kid wants, this is about a parent's ego. It's merely for show and status.

My whole stinkin house came with the price-tag of $52k. And we're not talking double-wide, here--this is a nicely kept 1920s bungalow in Kansas City Missouri.
That bed. That bed costs almost as much as a whole house in Kansas City. You could buy a slumlord rental property for the cost of that bed. A bed which will be outgrown in a few years.
My head is reeling and may soon explode.

Yeah, well, I guess the U.S. government is going to have to increase their estimate of what it costs to raise a child these days. The old figure of $400,000 to age 18 (not including college, of course) just won't cut it if you're buying a bed like this!
