Blogging baby book: seven months, with sushi

Truman had his first sushi last night, in a lovely meal at the
reincarnation of the restaurant where we spent a good deal of my pregnancy with Everett, and his first year. Tani's
closed when his landlord decided to tear down his building when Everett was barely one, not reopening until a few
months ago. And last night, we returned with both boys.
Tani prepared us something special to start, little slices of salmon marinated in grapefruit juice, onions, and maybe some sake and garlic?, and Japanese potato balls in a simple, salty broth. The salmon was very soft, so I pinched off a bit with my chopsticks and offered it to Truman. He gummed it, rolling it around on his tongue, then excitedly lunged for more, waving his arms with joy. I fed him several more bites, and then started giving him bits of potato. He ate, lustily, then flirted with Tani and our favorite waiter, smiling with every dimple and curve of his body.
Later, Truman feasted on breast milk flavored with barbecued eel, spicy tuna, tempura calamari, that amazingly tender salmon, and slept like…a baby. Baby's first sushi. There's no sticker for that in my scrapbooking set, but it's none the less wonderful.

I am so happy she enjoys it at the moment. I was never exposed to these things when I was younger, so it took me much longer to warm up to them. Kudos to you for starting early!

We took him to a japanese restaurant a few weeks back and he loved it - all the plates going round on their little conveyor belt provided him with plenty of eye candy! As he was only 3 months, though, I decided that it was a bit soon to taste ;) Though he did slurp happily at his breastmilk for the following 24hrs...
