When girls attack … Barbie
Filed under: Development/Milestones: Babies, Media, Toys
According to an
academic study reported by the UK’s Telegraph, Barbie dolls have so lost their value to today’s children
that they “maim, burn or microwave them to show their disgust.” Apparently, experts at Bath University
in England have determined that girls attack their Barbie’s as a symbol of their rejection of “consumer
society.” Dr. Agnes Nairn, who led the research, stated “Barbie provoked rejection, hatred and
violence.”
Color me skeptical, but as intelligent as today’s children are, I’d still wager
Barbie gets condemned to the microwave just ‘cause it’d be cool to see what happens.

Ann Adams said...Maybe Karen but until I threw them away, I had a houseful of headless Barbies. They didn't pull the heads off anything else - just Barbies.
Someone gave the two younger girls Barbies for an early Christmas present. Rochelle gave hers away and Rebecca's is still in the box.
Maybe they've outgrown decapitation but not their dislike of Barbie.
