Head teacher bans cameras at school concert

Filed under: Health & Safety: Babies

My friend (hi Jill!) sent me this link and I fear it's a glimpse into my future. The head teacher at a school in Wales decided the risk of video or images falling into the 'wrong hands' was too great, so no parent is allowed to record school events.

Parents are obviously outraged, saying they have a right to film their children in performances so they can share the day with out of town family and friends and even so their children will have the memories of the day long after the event. Another member of the school commission says he supports the policy "because of child protection issues. If anybody gets photographs of children, they can be published anywhere."

Yes they could be published any where. Like in a family scrapbook! And what if that one lecherous uncle views a picture of a child and fantasizes about him!? We should never ever allow children to be photographed.

I just died. I'm dead. Remember when we discussed the fear of technology masking real threats? Remember how my son was nearly removed from preschool because I ((gasp)) took pictures of him at a school performance and shared them on the internet?

Are there really not enough good things to worry about in the world?
