Celebrating New Year's without the kids
I really liked
Karen Walrond's post about celebrating New Year's with
your children. But you know what I'm going to like even better? Being in a Seattle hotel room with my wife watching
the fireworks explode over the Space Needle, while our parents are at home peeling our kids off of the walls. Yes,
folks, this is the first New Year's we'll have had alone together since I can't remember. Obligatory disclaimer: Don't get me wrong, I love my children, they're the light of my life, blah blah blah. But I have no shame in admitting that I'm looking forward to an adult December 31st. Christmas is the penultimate family holiday. But New Year's? Sure you can celebrate New Year's with your kids - just break out a bottle of sparking cider for the little guys, and tell them to nudge you conscious once Regis Philbin waves goodnight. But to me, this is a holiday for the big people.
Anyone else planning a child-free start to 2006?

Perfect.
