planning a homebirth, knowing how quickly your first child came, making sure that preparations were complete in time.
Prepared is your middle name, until you give birth to two babies instead of the one that your caregivers assured you
that you were carrying. Shocked would be one feeling, but as the author of the article and the mom of surprise twins goes on to explain, it was an amazing blessing. So much depends upon your outlook and state of mind, and because this mom thought she was carrying just one baby, she was able to view her pregnancy as normal and to avoid the interventions common with twin pregnancies and births.

Angela Fay said...My mom was confidently informed that she was giving birth to a boy - but out came my twin sister and I. She loved to tell people that she gave birth lamaze to with double full breech babies, then passed-out when she realized she had two infants to hold! Really, the 'surprise' of a twin birth is relatively new. Mothers have been doing this well...forever.
