Study says birth coaches unnecessary
Filed under: Your Pregnancy, Health & Safety: Babies
One of my
favorite cocktail party stories is the one from the delivery of my daughter. I'd been in pitocin-induced labor for 14
hours and at that point had been pushing for an hour. Simply put, I was exhausted. My husband was trying to be helpful,
I know that, but things that might have worked for him, do not work for me. Labor or not.Logan is a marathon runner and a biker and at those spots where he just can't go on he tells himself to 'Dig Deep'. Before I was in labor and digging pretty deeply, I thought that was a silly thing which would never work for me. Sure enough, at the end of my labor while pushing my loving husband didn't know what else to say and so whispered in my ear, repeatedly "Dig deep". He did that until I gnawed his face off.
With this background you'll see why I think this study which says coaching through labor has little effect on the birth process. Hmm...you don't say.
