Gwyneth Paltrow baby name: Capone?
Gwyneth Paltrow took forever to officially announce her
pregnancy. I guess she had to before the Golden Globes, because she's rocking a Balenciaga maternity dress made just
for her. Wouldn't it be nice (*sigh*). I'm totally calling up Balenciaga when I'm pregnant for the 2008 Bloggies.
Never fear, there's news buried somewhere here. According to Isaac Mizrahi, she's considering the name "Capone" for the baby in her belly. She should know his gender by now; she's about four months along. I think I like the name. But more importantly, what do you think?

Maryanne said...Well, the obvious question...
Isn't that the surname of a famous and notorious mafia leader? Wasn't he imprisoned on Alcatraz in the 30's?
Why would she name her child that, given the history?

Jenn said...Went and looked to see if perhaps there was some other meaning to the word "Capone," but there's not. The only association is with Alphonse Capone, the gangster. To repeat Maryanne's question, why on earth would you want to name your child something with such negative associations?
Plus, it just doesn't sound like a first name. Apple was much better (and I'm not even a big fan of that one!).

Ben said...Capone? As in Al Capone? That's a goofy name to give to someone you love.

I thought she looked much further along than 4 months. Maybe it's b/c she's so slim that she looked further along to me. I was more interested in her constant dropping of the "H" in "Anthony." ;)

Irela said...I agree that Capone seems like an odd choice. It has no uplifting associations. The name itself has a nice swing to it, but who can hear it without thinking of Al?
I'd go with Celery, personally. Just kidding. But I do like the name Apple a lot and I'm all for unusual names. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

At least that name is way off of the beaten track. (Brian,Bob,Mary etc.....).
Hey! there were killers that were named Lizzie(Borden),Jeffrey (Dahmer),Theodore(Bundy)John(Wayne Gacy).
So either way she would be probably naming her kid after someone who's done something bad in history if you really searched.
