Breastfeeding cravings different than pregnancy cravings?
Filed under: Babies, Your Pregnancy, Work Life
I've been breastfeeding Truman for nine months, and I'm still hungry all. the. time. But my cravings are far different than during pregnancy. When I was pregnant, I craved carbohydrates, dairy, protein, and vegetables. I couldn't get enough greens and I wanted cream cheese on everything. After I got over my initial nausea I wanted to eat sausage constantly.
I'm still in need of much protein (beef, I love you, oh, how I love you) but my major craving is sweets. I've noticed that I get these cravings most keenly right after I put Truman down from a long breastfeeding jag. Right now, as I'm typing, I'm jittery even though I just ate two macadamia white chocolate chip cookies. I need more sugar. NOW.
(And yes, I'm trying to eat fruit when I crave sugar, but it's hard: I really just want
chocolate, cookies, cake.) Did you have different cravings during pregnancy and breastfeeding? And was anyone
else such a sugar freak?

I have managed to gain all the weight I had lost during pregnancy (Gestational Diabeties)approx 10kg.Grrrr..I cant seem to go a day without chocolate or milk...while I was on a very strict diet during pregnancy, and got the all clear after my daughter was born, I now wonder if at my 12 month blood glucose test the diabeties will show up again...

i even mix up packaged cake batter and eat it from the bowl - doens't taste as good once baked.

Gayle said...I am so glad I found this page! I have always been somewhat of a junkfood junkie but during pregnancy the only thing i wanted was healthy food.... especially veggies. I still gained about 40 lbs, all but 10 i lost a week after birth... i too was told that breastfeeding would help me lose the weight...then the sugar cravings hit... its nothing like i have ever experienced before!! It's uncontrolable! Now im thinking about buying stock in peanut m&ms and im too scared to get on the scale! When will it stop so I can finally lose weight???

I WEIGH LESS NOW THAN I EVER HAVE. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE FASTEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT WAS TO BREASTFEED, I WOULD HAVE STARTED HAVING KIDS WHEN I WAS 12. HOPE MY SON DOESN'T MIND BREASTFEEDING FOR THE NEXT 18 YEARS BECAUSE I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING OUT AGAIN.
