Honest Baby Board: Dispelling the myth of the perfect parent

If I write a post for Blogging Baby about playing with your children at the park or worrying about their safety, someone will inevitably bring up "hovering" and how you're doing a disservice to a child by not fostering independence. If someone has things they miss about life before children, a firestorm of comments could ensue about being a selfish, ungrateful mom.

Yet, we also read tons of comments from parents who are tired of living up to the myth of being a perfect parent. I wonder why? Could it be that the perfect parent doesn't exist? I imagine if there there were such a thing, it would be laden with so much parenting guilt - don't we have enough of that already?

I like to think that we at Blogging Baby are helping to do a little perfect parenting myth shattering. Today's dose Daily Candy pointed me to another site I'm in love with: Honest Baby. It's motto? "Celebrating the imperfect journey of parenting." How can you not dig that?

Honest Baby includes a "Storytime" message board where it invites you to share your stories of  "real parenting" to help dispel the myth of perfect parenting. They also have some kick-ass kid's t-shirts with phrases like "not sleeping through the night,"  "I'll walk when I'm good and ready," and my personal favorite, "I survived nipple confusion."

I. dig. it.
