Diego has finally made it to France!

This is probably the best television import of the year.
Yes, Diego has finally made it to France ending 3 years of Dora monarchy. And no matter how thankful I am to Dora for teaching my boys how to count in English and for allowing me to take a shower without incessant interruptions, I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to see a character who does not scream all the time and has a normal shaped head. We've only seen a couple of episodes so far, but the boys already love watching Diego and Baby Jaguar's adventures.
Yet some parents seem to be disappointed with the show, saying it's "not original, just like Dora, only it's with a boy". What do you think? Do you like it?

Kaylee would marry Diego if she could. She *LOVES* him.
Yeah...the format is much like Dora's show...which was much like Blue's Clues. They're all cut from the same cloth.

I hope we get it in the Netherlands soon! My son recently started to watch Dora and I think he'd even like it more if it were a boy character. I like how it's Dutch and English which is both languages he's exposed to!

Dora and her entire creepy, helpless family are banned at my house, but yeah, I'd have to go with it's a masculinized version of the original. Which is really kinda sad. I mean, much though I loathe Dora, it *was* nice to have the lead character be a girl for once. But I guess too many dads obecting to their sons' love affair with such "girly" merchandising spoke louder than having a (theoretically) postive female role model.

Kellan loves this show. Dora is his all time favourite and this one comes a close second. Yes, it is basically the same show with a few more "bells and whistles", but that's why he likes it. The format and the style are what draws children to Dora, so why mess with a good thing?

We found Diego before we ever saw Dora's show - we LOVE Diego! His adventures are more fun, at least in our opinion, though there seem to be only about 10 total shows and we've seen them all. Still, we find Diego way more enjoyable than Dora

i think it's great, and both my boys love it. although it seems like they made it so that boys would have a show. nick jr seems to think that dora is just for girls just because dora is a girl. every product that they make with dora on it is for girls. why can't boys like dora, too? my older son points out every time he sees a girl in a dora outfit ("look mommy, she has dora!"); i know that he'd love a shirt or shoes with dora on it, too.
at least now with diego i won't have to tell him "no, that (thing with dora on it) is for girls."
now that i got all that out, they do really love diego, too. :)

Why can't you get him the doll or shirt or whatever, even though it's "for girls"? Does it really matter if he has a pink shirt?
My dad wore pink clothes for months after he accidentally stained them in the wash. Of course, he was a Macho Man, he had to *wear* his mistakes to prove how tough he was....

Yes the shows are similar, but my 3 year old son can identify a blue whale, penguin, tree frog, and a three toed sloth, on sight. He sometimes recognizes pumas, blue morpho butterflies, and pigmy marmosets. He Loves Dora and Boots, but He wants top BE Diego.
