Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Chris Martin name baby son Moses
Filed under: Celeb Kids

Thank God it's not Mortimer!
People.com reports that Gwyneth Paltrow and husband musician Chris Martin have named their baby son Moses, after a song Martin wrote for his wife in 2003.
Again, congratulations to the Martin family!
(Thank you Cathy for the tip!)

Martha Buckwalter said...You should google the lyrics to the song "Moses" by Coldplay. As was mentioned, Chris wrote it for Gwyneth. It is so beautiful, and what a beautiful and special name for their son.

MelissaS said...Oh and I bet little Moses was born with horrible fetal alcohol syndrome? Right? I mean Gwyneth had the *nerve* to have a drink or three while pregnant.

He was on the Junos a week back, and I must say, he seemed kinda cool.

Donna said...I doubt the child was born sick but drinking while pregnant is not a joke.
Congrats on the newest bundle of joy!

Stephanie said...Donna, I agree that drinking whilst pregnant is not a joke but there are people that can be crazy judgemental when they don't have all the facts.
I am seven months pregnant and had 3/4 of a glass of champagne (with a full meal) for my friend's 40th birthday. Methinks my baby will be fine. Either that or I'm going to hell in a handbasket............

MelissaS said...I wasn't joking about drinking while pregnant. I was joking about the alarmist stance so many people took when Gwyneth was spotted having a beer or two.

David said...I can't be the only one who gets nuts when I hear celebs with "normal" names giving their children "out there" names. Apple? Moses? Why do Chris (very normal name) and Gwyneth (Gwen - also very normal) saddle their kids with these names? Life is hard enough and people are free to differentiate themselves anyway they like, but naming your child something like that sets them up to have to deal with it for life. Give them a nice, normal name and let them mix it up with a cool nickname later if they want. Afterall, it's their life, not the parents'.

thordora said...David, as someone who grew up with a "weird" name, I can tell you that it was the least of my problems. If anything, it helped cement my individuality, as well as my self confidence and independence. I never once wanted a "normal" name which, btw, tends to change each decade. In fact, I was glad to not be part of the multitudes of Jennifer's, Natalie's or Vicki's in my area. I stick out, and I'm glad about it.

Congrats to the Paltrow-Martin family!

Santress said...Actually, she wasn't spotted having a beer or two. She was spotted having a beer plus 2-3 glasses of wine the night following the first incident. I don't think it's crazy alarmist to be concerned over even moderate drinking while pregnant but then I also think this tangent about the drinking would have been better left in the original discussion instead of a birth announcement.
Getting back on topic-> Welcome to the world, Moses!

Stephanie said...I feel the need to comment again. During this pregnancy I often have non-alcohol beers and de-alcoholized wine (which incidentally doesn't taste great). I was approached once at a restaurant and reprimanded by a woman because I was drinking a beer - she felt like an idiot when I told her it was non-alcohol.

Donna said...I recall her publicist confirming the alcohol. I agree comments on the drinking issue would be better left under the original topic.
