Blogging Baby Size Six: last-minute Easter craft ideas
Filed under: Activities: Babies
For those who procrastinate, or who just found out a bunch of kids are coming over for Easter, here are several quick
crafty ideas that can be pulled off by tomorrow, or can be done by the kids themselves with few ingredients. And none
involve dye!1. Yarn eggs. For anyone who crewels, crochets, knits, or does other yarny crafts, the ingredients for this fun little project should be right at hand. Give children a selection of non-precious cottons and wools and an empty egg carton, and let them create a dozen yarn eggs. Each child can keep his or her eggs to make things with, or give the carton as a gift for a crafter to make a scrap scarf or other small project.
2. Spool animals. Hillary at wee wonderfuls describes these best, and has adorable examples on her blog this week. The sheep is a must-see.
3. Tissue flowers and corsages. Using colored tissue paper and pipe cleaners, kids
domain gives a quick recipe here. The results can be used
for bouquets or as wrist or lapel corsages.
4. Easter bonnets/crowns. You'll need large paper plates,
ribbon, glue, and decorations such as the tissue paper flowers mentioned above, buttons, stickers, and other pretty
junk. Cut a round hole in the center of each plate so that it will sit on a child's head. Attach ribbons to either side
so the bonnet can be tied under the chin. Then let kids loose to decorate their bonnets.
5. Postcards. I
first heard this idea from While She Naps. Give children a
selection of art supplies and blank postcards. They can create cards for themselves or each other, or to send to
relatives and friends who are not with the family for Easter. Once they're finished designing the cards, help them
address and stamp them and make a special trip to the mailbox.
6. Eggs in nests. For those who want to get a
little messy, Enchanted Learning offers a recipe
for little birds' nests filled with candy. Another very easy version is available here.
