Move over, Bratz: here come the Pussycat Dolls
Filed under: Work Life, Media, Toys
Oh, yawn ... aren't you just tired of the Bratz brand of hootchie? It's just so
2005, isn't it?Well, lucky for you, the Pussycat Dolls (that pop group famous for their profound lyrics: Don't cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me/ Don't cha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me) have struck a deal with Hasbro to create fashion dolls modeled on its six members. According to the New York Times, the toy line aims to mimic the group's "playfully risqué style," and is intended for children aged 6 to 9.
Six to nine. Playfully risqué.
Am I the only person that sees something wrong with this?

Becky said...I'd like to know if the people who come up with these ideas, make and sell these things have children. Or even children in their lives (nieces, nephews, etc.). I mean, what are THEY thinking? Parents (and anyone else concerned about children) need to tell them it's not acceptable.

Bonnie said...Ok, I have to agree with the statement about little girls wanting to dress like their dolls, I know I did. I wish American Girls would come out with a more affordable doll though. I wanted one of there historic dolls so bad when I was a little girl. I loved that they came with period costumes and you could buy the various furniture for them and if I remember every doll came with a book telling her story. As a history buff I loved that. The problem of course is the price, because I would buy these dolls for my daughter before I would buy her barbies or any of the others.

I am a teacher in Los Angeles and I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to witness our young girls having to grow-up so fast and deal with issues of sex and drugs far too early in life! The images of girls and women that the coporate media and its advertisers promote through TV, DVD's, movies and commercials are having a profound impact upon what our daughters believe about themselves and how they behave with boys. It's scary you guys! Please buy them age appropriate books, get rid of the majority of TV watching and monitor them, monitor them, monitor them!

Sarah said...What is wrong with you people?! Its a doll!!! Yes I agree the Pussydat dolls are awful, and why should they make even more money out of being a bunch of tarts? But the BIG difference is that dolls like Barbie and Bratz are not REAL!!! They are based on no one beacuse they are just a toy! Its called using your imagination which is usually what children do. How can you underestimate a childs imagination, by saying that they do not learn anything from playing with a doll? They learn to play. I mean come on people did you honstly grow up thinking that Barbie was a real woman? I seriously doubt it. Stop depriving your children and let them be kids.
