Mariska Hargitay worries about losing her baby fat
Filed under: Your Pregnancy, Bump Watch, Celeb Kids
I have read this before
I saw it on Celebrity Baby Blog. Mariska Hargitay is worried about losing
her baby fat. The Law & Order: SVU star reports admiring Denise Richards and Heidi Klum for their rapid
weight loss. Me? I love seeing pictures of Jennifer Garner, who is still carrying some normal weight around her
abdomen. Or, heaven forbid, poor Britney Spears, who is constantly being accused of being pregnant for a second time.
Hargitay says she will start running on the treadmill as soon as she can. Well, that's good. I have been running for five miles a day almost every day for a year. And I have only gone down one pants size. I realize that maybe I am not a celebrity. I don't get paid by anybody to lose weight. But that doesn't change the fact that my body is still a human one and that sometimes, despite our best efforts, we can't get our bodies ready to walk a runway two weeks after we give birth. I think it is pretty typical to wonder what kinds of changes from pregnancy are going to be permanent. But you know? Your body will never be the same. And that's okay.

It's just kinda sad that she, and other "stars" have to worry about it.

Meredith said...And here I was the whole time thinking how great it was that I was seen as pregnant and not just fat, for once. I never wanted it to end only so I could have a different title.
It is a shame that there is such a focus on getting immediately skinny. Enjoy it all, people.

Why, then, do they succomb to society's pressure to be skinny two weeks after such a life-altering event. I would love to see them out on the town, throwing the "skinny bias" right back into the faces of those who would titter about their baby pounds. I wish they would stand up and say, "Look at the miracle my body just performed. It deserves to be celebrated for the shape that it's in, not shamed because it doesn't fit into some unrealistic Size 0 mold."

If they DON'T lose their weight quick enough and look "celebrity beautiful" right away, they'll get criticized for that too. (Look at how many times there have been comments there have been in the media about Britney "letting her looks go" after she had her baby.)
Damned if you do...damned if you don't.

Sharon said...I truly feel for Mariska, because her paycheck really does depend on her meeting the expected standards. There aren't too many celebs who can get away with looking chunkier for long.
Unfortunately, until the Hollywood image changes, and actors aren't expected to be unrealistically skinny, celebs are always going to have that pressure on them, even when they don't have children. It's just plain not easy for some people to be that thin. There are people out there who have to work five times as hard and they still have to fight their curves.
I'll bet if you were were to narrow Hollywood down to the actors who are naturally thin, or can maintain their thinness easily (without drugs or eating disorders), you would only be watching the same dozen over and over.
I'm waiting for the day when the Rubenesque, voluptuous figure is the desired one. Or, better yet, ALL sizes are embraced, and we can focus on being healthy (I know this has been talked about before - yawn). Maybe all it would take is for a few directors/producers to insist that these actors put on a few pounds or they don't get the job. Then we could all stop putting so much pressure on ourselves to look a way that is not natural.
But then... they would not be too special, those celebs; they would be too much like us. But look again, reality TV is everywhere. Maybe this would be the perfect time for a size transition in Hollywood.
