Mommy business cards
Categories: Just for moms, Money & work
I can't even begin to count the number of times I have needed to give my personal information to another mother, only to realize that the only paper source I can find is a muck covered birthday invitation lurking in the bottom of my purse. Some clever mothers are keying into this dilemma and have come up with the concept of mommy cards. The cards contain the basic information of phone numbers and names. Some mothers put birth dates, allergies or other safety information. For mothers moving to a new community the card is an ingenious method for introductions. Mothers going to a restaurant for lunch can now drop their card in the fish bowl to be eligible for the weekly lunch give aways. For other mothers who once distributed business cards among colleagues, a mommy card helps them feel a sense of pride and organization they might have left behind at the office.
This is not to say that motherhood should be treated as a business. Yes, it is a job. A wonderful and fabulous one at that. But the mommy card has merit. To never again have to rummage through the dregs of one's purse looking for a functional pen is a very good thing.

Neat idea. I especially like the emergency contact information aspect. These would be great to make sure your child had in his pocket at a zoo or similar. I am going to make sure mine has my name on it, though, unlike the one pictured above. I don't think I want the other moms in my playgroup calling me "Owen's mommy."

I am one of those with the mommy business cards... I have to say that I love having them! Although I have occasionally given out the wrong card at a business meeting! :)

Great idea! I wish personal cards like this were more common. I'm not yet a mother, but I can't count the number of times I've wanted to give someone my contact information, and had nothing to write on that couldn't easily be mistaken for trash.

I can see why these would be quite useful. However, the example shown is disturbing. Apparently, "Steve and Becca's Mommy" doesn't have her own name, letalone her own identity.
