Doctor donates blood to own patient
This story made my heart happy.A Doctor in the middle of a mercy-mission surgery on an 8-year old boy briefly halted the operation in order to donate his own rare blood to the patient.
Doctor Samuel Weinstein had been in the middle of complex heart surgery on the boy when it was realized that his blood was running low and they didn't have sufficient replacement. When it was realized that the boy had the same rare blood type as Dr. Weinstein, the physician donated his blood, ate a Pop Tart, and returned to complete the surgery successfully.
The little boy came off his ventilator the next day to have lunch with the Doctor who saved his life.
Kudos to Dr. Weinstein and his team. I wish we'd hear more stories like this one.

Amen to that. Can we have a happy day once a month? :)

Nancy Toby said...The Poptart detail was nice. Now if the physician happened to be obese, we could castigate him for displaying terrible eating habits ... but instead, because he gave blood to a sick kid, and THEN ate his Poptart, he's a hero.
Isn't life strange.
