Brandy Chastain's a mom!

A few weeks ago, I remarked that my little two-year-old girl has become a huge football fan -- leaving me to wonder if I have a little Brandy Chastain on my hands.Well, speak of the devil: it turns out that Brandy Chastain has a little Chastain of her own on her hands!
As you might remember, Chastain was the member of the 1999 American Women's World Cup soccer team who memorably stripped off her shirt in unbridled exuberance after kicking her winning penalty shot. She and her husband, Jerry Smith, have welcomed their first child, a little boy -- Jaden Chastain Smith, born on June 8th. No further details have been given about the little boy's birth -- however, I suspect Brandy was just as elated as she was back on that fateful day '99.
Congratulations to the Chastain-Smith family!

Yay for Brandi! As a lifelong (well, since five) soccer fan and player, I'll never forget the finish of that game. Just seeing that magazine cover still gives me chills. It's cool to know she's a mom now.
I'm hoping Baby A will be a soccer fan, too--or at least a fan and player of team sports. I've read that more than 90 percent of women corporate officers played team sports growing up. What a great way to learn how to get along and reach goals together (literally).
Karen, did you do anything special to encourage your girl's soccer/football fandom?

Not a thing -- she comes by this passion on her own. I'm encouraging it, though -- I'm completely unathletic myself, so it'd be good if she doesn't follow my footsteps on this one!
