Getting married brings happiness
Filed under: Health & Safety: Babies
According to a new study, getting hitched could help to alleviate the blues. Although the researchers expected opposite results, they found that getting married dramatically increased the happiness levels of both partners. Apparently, mattering to somebody else increases one's self-esteem and brings security to a relationship. The study followed couples before and after their nuptials. the findings were based on aspects such as insomnia and persistent sadness.
"Depressed people may be just especially in need of the intimacy, the emotional closeness and the social support that marriage can provide ... if you start out happy, you don't have as far to go," Kristi Williams, an assistant professor of sociology said.
If you're in the line up to get married, then this could be a good thing for your depression. But if marriage is not on your horizon, maybe a gym membership might help with your blues.
