Lilliput playhouses: When money is not a problem

Categories: Celeb Kids, Life & Style

I remember how extravagant I felt when we bought our then 1-year-old a playhouse. A playhouse! For a toddler! We got it used, but still. She has a playhouse!

Well, after seeing these extravagant playhouses, I don't feel like such a spender. I was watching one of those VH1 shows on all the incredibly ridiculous swag that the ultra-wealthy buy for their children when I saw the Lilliput Playhouses.

For just shy of $5,000, your little star can have her very own Storybook Bungalow, complete with a real doorbell and skylights. If you're in the mood for spending extra, you can always have a custom home built so your child can have her own pint-sized version of her parents' house.

What bothers me most about these types of playhouses (besides the fact that your 2-year-old has one ridiculously expensive TOY) is that Middle America, which is seemingly becoming obsessed with high-priced baby items that were once only available to a select few (Hello, Bugaboo!) will want to fork out the cash.

They need to remember that this company's clientele includes people like Russell Simmons, who owns the $8,900 Cotton Candy model on the main page. Since that's the case, you're not really keeping up with the Joneses, Suzy McBugaboo. You're keeping up with the Simmonses.
