Maggie Gyllenhaal's strange cravings
Filed under: Your Pregnancy, Nutrition: Health, Bump Watch, Celeb Kids, Rumors
I have heard of ice cream and pickles and rocky road ice cream, but I've never heard of tiramisu and watermelon.Apparently, the latter two were the only two items pregnant actress Maggie Gyllenhaal could tolerate during her first trimester of pregnancy. She said that her fiance and brother ran around the city to find things she could eat, and came back with pasta and steak and all kinds of things she couldn't eat at all.
I don't remember having any really strong cravings in my first trimester -although I did crave citrus, particularly oranges, throughout. And I could not smell herbal essences or ground beef without being overcome with helpless, forceful nausea.
Did you have any strange pregnancy cravings?

Hollie said...Jello! I ate a 6 pack of those jello cups almost everyday throughout my pregnancy. I'd put whipcream on top. Before my pregnancy, and now after, I haven't wanted any jello. It was just my weird craving I suppose.

Nessa said...I went through obsessive food phases. Like the 6wks where I ate green bean cassarole everyday for lunch. Or the couple months of tunafish sandwiches for breakfast. And the STRONG aversion to anything sweet. I don't normally eat beef or pork, but by 6wks into the pregnancy all I wanted was meat all the time. I guess I was trying to stave off anemia or something.
My grandma apparently had huge cravings for lobster and watermellon when she was pregnant with my dad. When she had them again a few years later is how they found out they were pregnant with my aunt. Heh.

Heather said...My first pregnancy, I could only eat canned peaches and lime sherbet for the first 8 weeks. I don't even like peaches, canned or fresh! The second time around, I could only tolerated PB&J sandwiches for about 10 weeks. The last time around was the best. I couldn't handle anything for about 5 weeks. Once is subsided, I could eat almost anything.

Lil' Liberal said...Me- the only things I could eat during trimester one were potatoes (mashed, french fries, baked), watermelon/canteloupe/berries, or chicken soup from a can. (Even my home-made chicken soup made me want to vomit)
They weren't especially "cravings" per se.. More like "Things I can eat without making me want to curl up into a ball and die at the thought".

I also wanted pancakes... blueberry pancakes... I hope when I become pregnant again I want belgian waffles to be the only thing I want LOL... because I crave them now and I am NOT pregnant... need an excuse for something indulgent like that!!

Marcia said...TACOS! or quesadillas from Taco Bell. It was the only thing I really wanted to eat the first 4 months and the only thing that didn't make me throw up a few hours later. And to think, I thought taco sauce would upset my stomach! I had the canned peaches thing too for a while.
Now, I'm 36 weeks (WOOOO almost done) and I can't eat enough chocolate or yogurt. My sweetheart bought me 2 bags of Snickers minis and a couple full sized ones for this week haha! The peanuts are taking away from the satisfaction, so I may have to move to Milky Ways or 3 Musketeers next week.

Melanie said...For my first, it was watermelon and baked potatoes. Was all I ate forEVER it seems. For my 2nd, it was jell-o. Had to be name brand and sugared - off-brands or sugar-free just wouldn't do it. I'd eat 2 boxes a day some weeks. I still eat watermelon and potatoes, but I haven't had jell-o in a long time (my youngest is 4.5)

Rachel May said...Milk, milk, and more milk throughout my pregnancy. I'd go through a gallon in two days by myself.
Wheat thins and pretzels were easy to snack on in the classroom while I was teaching -- I'd go through a box every three days or so.
Jonathan was born on June 21st, and watermelons were in season here for the last two months or so. I actually ate a whole medium-sized watermelon in one sitting. By myself. Several times.
