Jesus Camp, grooming kids to become religious fanatics?

Categories: Development, That's entertainment

Jesus Camp, an independent film by documentary makers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, takes an in depth look at the breeding of religion in Born Again Christian youth. The film follows children of Evangelicals as they attend the "Kids on Fire" summer bible camp. This is no camp for the light hearted approach to teaching youth about God. Here the children are video taped as they speak in tongues, perform spiritual war dances while covered in camouflage face paint and even go so far as to bless a cardboard image of President George W. Bush. The founder of the camp, Becky Fishcer, makes no excuses for her desires to convert children to this extreme version of religion. She claims she can walk on to any playground and educate young children in such a way that they will be more than anxious to join up on the quest for Jesus.

A number of liberal viewers have expressed dismay and even rage over the tactics seen in the documentary. They believe it to be brain washing of innocent children. Although I would undoubtedly prefer to watch a Michael Moore documentary this movie sounds interesting enough to merit a viewing. I doubt I'll buy it on DVD, but it might help to explain a few things about religious zeal.
