Kate Winslet dishes on how to be a real mom
Kate Winslet has never made any public apologies about her body. When asked by the media about her curves, she has repeatedly said that she is a woman and a mother, why try to hide that fact by starving herself to skin and bones. For her latest movie, Little Children, Kate's character performed some rather revealing sex scenes. Again when asked about sharing her stretch marks with the world, she said, "It was very important for me to just be a real person and be in the position where I can stand up and say, 'Hey look, I'm normal. I have these stretch marks. I'm not perfect.'" the 32-year-old four-times Oscar nominee explains.I think Kate Winslet is one of the most beautiful women in the public spotlight. I love it that she does not shy away from her body. The fact that she will tell anybody willing to listen that she loves the changes that have come to her body since bearing two children is a wonderful message to spread. Sure she likely has a make-up artist and a hair person, but for a celebrity she seems about as a real as they come.

“I just thought to myself, ‘You know what, I’m playing a woman who is a mother and therefore it stands to reason that not every part of my body would be perfect - which, by the way, it’s not - and who is perfect?”
What I like about Kate Winslet's comments isn't that she finds all these changes absolutely beautiful or that she's in love with her new post babies body, but that she's made peace with it.
The best of us who have stretch marks, sagging breasts and butts let alone the few to many extra pounds as a result of pregnancy, tolerate our changing bodies. We understand that that's the price to pay for having kids - it's nearly impossible to emerge unscathed from the experience. It's nice to hear someone reknowned for her beauty admitting that she's got stretch marks and looks just like the rest of us naked.

LB said...I read this book and it is just hilarious that Kate Winslet in the "ugly" character. That's the movies for ya'. I hope the filmakers didn't alter her stretch marks too much in post production. I'm happy she has admitted having them, but that doesn't mean the powers that be will highlight them. Nikki Taylor has said she had terrible ones after her twins and that Retin A didn't really help, yet you never see them in her pics.

Nicola said...I agree. She is gorgeous. Always one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood in my mind. My husband, however, says that she is too heavy. Seriously. I can't see it at all, but that's a man for you. Thank goodness I made it through my one and only pregnancy without any stretch marks!
