Did Madonna adopt a baby boy?

According to CNN, Madonna has adopted a little boy from the impoverished African nation of Malawi.The article notes that Madonna and her entourage arrived in the country's capital by private plane early this morning.
Malawi's government says that the 48-year-old star adopted a one-year-old orphan from among 12 children, after requesting that officials identify boys for her. Originally, they said, she'd inquired about girls, but changed her mind several weeks ago.
Malawi typically has a rule that only country residents can adopt, but evidently waived the rule for Madonna.
I remember hearing rumblings months ago that Madonna was interested in having another child.

VL said...I think it's great when celebrities choose to adopt. However, I have to say, it really irks me when countries (including the US) break the rules for rich and famous Americans. They should be subject to say the same rules that govern the rest of us ordinary folk.

JillKaplan said...Why does it seem so easy for celebritys to adopt? It takes months, possibly over a year for a middle class family from the United States to adopt. There are EXTENSIVE meetings and paperwork to go through. It seems that celebritys just go to the countries they want a pick out a child. (i'm all for adoption but let's be fair)
