Florida mom passes out drunk with baby in the back seat
Categories: Health & safety
A few months ago I brought Blogging Baby readers the story of a Florida mother who left her baby at Sears for 90 minutes, a post that generated 325 comments which pretty much drove me away from posting stories here for six months. Well, now I've discovered another Florida mom who just might just surpass that other mom and win the honor of being Florida's worst mother.Danielle Tozer of Clermont, Florida was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning after police officers found her passed out in her car outside the Crown Lodge bar with her baby buckled in the car seat behind her. A bartender told police that Tozer had been drinking at the business, a local news crew reported. Tozer was booked into the Lake County Jail on one count of child neglect. The baby is currently in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families custody.
The good news is, the baby was in a car seat. The bad news: apparently Tozer left it there while she spent the night in a bar getting so hammered that she passed out when she got behind the wheel. Let's hope she gets some rehab counseling as part of her probation deal.

Why would a post that generated so much action drive you away? Don't you get bonus brownie points for that? Anyway, Yep, Florida is such a freak show. Sometimes I am embarrassed to say I am a Florida Native. I bet that chick was from "up north". hee hee

I guess we should be grateful that at least she passed out BEFORE she started driving... :( She could have killed herself and the baby, and maybe other innocents.

Stories like this make me so sad. For every one person who is caught doing this, imagine how many are not. And to think how many times she had done that before, but driving home instead of passing out.

There is no doubt that what this mother did was inexcusable - endangering her child. But I am saddened oftentimes by how quickly people pass judgement to another human being for mistakes they make.
More often than not, media gives us the bare bones on facts about an incident. (I assume J.D. heard or read about this from a Florida-based news station.) We will never really know what drove this mother to drive up to a bar and drink herself to intoxication - the worst day at work, a bad row with her husband or boyfriend, or really bad money problems (seems like common problems to me but I don't drink alcohol myself so I really don't know what drives people to drink). Fortunately for her, her baby did not die of suffocation or from a collission.

You know what, Jacqui? In this case, I really don't care what caused her to engage in this behaviour. The simple fact is that she *did*. And she deserves to be judged harshly for that.

Man. You might guess from her mug shot that she knows she really f&(*&ed up.
I hope so.
