Hero mom kills attacker who threatened her child
Filed under: Media
It was a nightmare scenario, but after the dust settled late Sunday night, an unnamed Georgia mom emerged both a victim and a hero. That evening an old friend from high school whose romantic overtures she'd spurned showed up at her house wearing a ski mask and wielding a shotgun. After beating and raping her, he threatened to do the same to her 6-year-old daughter, and that's when the woman went for the butcher knife. They fought for as long as 20 minutes. She stabbed him, he stabbed her, smearing the floors, walls, and windows of her home with blood. At the end of the fight, 38-year-old Gerald A. Lee lay dead in the front yard, and the little girl was unharmed.Doctors at a local hospital operated on the woman Monday afternoon, and when she emerged from surgery she was listed in serious condition.
The woman's daughter had locked herself in a room on the second floor, and police officers carried her out of the house shielding her eyes to avoid letting her see the carnage that had taken place inside. "I explained ... we were going to play a game," one officer told the girl, according to his report. "She was going to cover her face like she was invisible and no one could see her. I told her once we got outside she could show herself again."YourVoice

Lea said...Whoever this woman is, she *rocks.* Wow, what amazing strength. It is so sad that she and her daughter had to to through that experience.
Without going into the whole story, I was in a similar situation to this (with a stranger who broke in) before Baby A came along. It will be seven years this January. Today, it's a guarantee that if anyone threatened my daughter similarly, I would absolutely SHRED him...to a pulp. Whew, that post really got the adrenaline going. :)
And yes, I'd feel horrible that it happened. I'm anti-violence, anti-death penalty (yes, even for my own attacker, had I not survived), but at some point, instinct takes over. Thank goodness this woman was able to follow her instinct.
Bigger picture: When will this crap stop? Statistics say one in four, or one in five, depending on which study, of our daughters will be raped. So disturbing.

Good for her. I'm a pacifist until it comes to this kind of crap. I would have to be very very dead before someone would get it my kids. We've been taught for too long to just "let it happen".
I'm glad she fought back, and won.

Listen up rapists and pedophiles....You come in our homes and threaten our children...you will NOT LIVE to regret it. Adrenaline + Mother's instincts = one f'd up bad guy!

Belinda said...I don't understand why people are like this?? I just seems so easy to me NOT to be like that, if this kind of SH** would just stop then the world will be better, but at this rate I will be RICH before the world is a good place to raise a child.

Julie said...I'm from Georgia. The update this morning on the news is that DFCS has taken the little girl from the mother's custody. The mother was interviewed this morning. The little girl was in DFCS's custody for a year and the mother just got her back. The mother said this morning that it wasn't fair b/c she hadn't planned on the attack happening. I wonder what the grounds were?
