Follow-up: Flight attendant disciplined

Filed under: Toddlers Preschoolers, Your Pregnancy, Places To Go, Nutrition: Health

Remember the family that was asked to get off a commuter plane because the mother was carrying a loaded bomb breastfeeding her baby? She refused to smother her baby with a blanket, so the flight attendant had her, her husband, and their 22-month-old daughter removed from the plane. Subsequently, a group of mothers held a nurse-in at the airport to protest the situation.

A spokesman for Freedom Airlines said that half an hour after being kicked off, the pilot apologized to the Gillette family and asked them to reboard, but Mrs. Gillette says that never happened. "I would have jumped at the opportunity," she said. The spokesman also said that the attendant had been disciplined, but did not specify what that discipline was. Nor did he indicate whether the discipline was for mistreating a passenger and disparaging breast-feeding or whether it focused more on generating bad publicity for the airline.
