Thanksgiving at our house
Categories: Fun & activities, Places to go

Today is Thanksgiving, just about my favorite holiday. No overtones of guilt, no religious obligations, nothing but a chance to recognize that and those for which we are most thankful. Today we'll head off to my mother-in-law's for a traditional family dinner, but for me, the real day is Saturday, when we have dinner at our place.
About fifteen years ago or so, my then-roommate and I began a tradition of hosting a dinner the Saturday after Thanksgiving for our friends who didn't have family locally and thus had no real Thanksgiving celebration to enjoy. This year is no different. We've had to cut back a bit, but even so, we'll likely have more than 30 adults and children in our little two-bedroom house.
It will be crazy and crowded and loads of fun, hopefully. We'll have a turkey and a ham and I know we've got stuffing and a kugel coming. We may play some music and board games and there will be lots and lots of talk. Most importantly, there will be the family and friends that make my life so great. What's your Thanksgiving like?
P.S., that would be my mother-in-law, not me. Just in case anyone got confused.

I'll try to be at loose ends in San Francisco next year.
We just finished eating the traditional high calorie dinner (pictures on blog). I'm missing part of my family this year; usually we have 20 people or so.
The kids are running it off. Since I started cooking yesterday and picked up again around six this morning, I believe I'll take a nap.
Happy Thanksgiving. It's my favorite holiday too.

This year, my brother was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Our mom went out of her way to make a delicious meal for diabetics. She even made pumpkin pie and a cheesecake dessert that was to-die-for. She scoured diabetic cook books for days. I am proud to say I have the best mom in the world.
