Pint-sized barman in England

They're sure precocious down in South Yorkshire. Chris Hardacre may be only twelve years old, but he's now a fully licensed bartender. His father runs the pub at the Star Inn in Barnby Dun in South Yorkshire. At twelve, he is the youngest ever to have passed the British Institute of Innkeeping exam.Chris got the idea when he read about a 16-year-old girl who had taken the test. He's just pulling pints for now, but he plans to take over completely once he turns 18 -- and the law allows it. For the time being, he'll have to settle for dispensing drinks. I have to give the kid credit -- at least he knows what he wants to do with himself when he grows up.

He's English, so I guess it's "O.K." I think kids start drinking in that country at 6 months anyway.

"creative-type dad" I really hope you're joking.
This is interesting, because when I worked at Waitrose (a British supermarket) when I was seventeen, we had to call a supervisor every time someone came through out till with alcohol. The law states that an under-18 cannot serve alcohol because they are not capable of telling whether the customer is over 18 or not. So the supervisor would come along and verify that yes, he/she believed the customer to be over 18 (which really pleased the little old ladies) and then we could sell the alcohol. I imagine that's why this kid can only serve alcohol under adult supervision.
