Easy gingerbread houses, thanks to Martha
Filed under: Activities: Babies
One of my husband's favorite stories to tell of my crafting gone bad was when I tried to make a gingerbread house. At the time, I was working as a reporter and had to make a gingerbread house for a picture to go with a story I wrote. Let's just say that by the time I finished, my gingerbread house looked like it had been decorated by a blind person after going through a hurricane. In fact, I have a feeling that saying it had been decorated by the blind is doing a disservice to the visually impaired. No one could decorate that horribly.
So, if you're like me and are horrible at trying to make the gingerbread, why not make it a bit easier? Martha Stewart has tips on how to make a "gingerbread" house, without the gingerbread!
Instead, use graham crackers for an easy, no-bake option. Just measure and cut and viola! You have a house! This is also good if you hate the taste of gingerbread, like I do.
So stock up on candy, whip up a batch of royal icing and go to town. Just save some leftovers for me, okay?

Nicole said...My family did this when we were kids. We made an entire village. Other helpful tips:
1.) Make the house frame out of cardboard and put the grahams and candy over that frame using icing cement.
2.) 'Nilla Wafers make great shingles!
