Mary Cheney reportedly pregnant

Though the only Dick in her life is her father, Vice President Cheney, Mary Cheney, 37, is pregnant with her first child. This is still technically a rumor, but the Washington Post has quoted an unnamed source close to the couple who says that both Mary and her partner of more than 15 years, Heather Poe, are ecstatic about becoming parents. The White House and the Vice President's Office have announced nothing, and will probably publicly ignore this news out of fear of further alienating the one third of its constituents who are rabid homophobes, but I'm sure old Dick is happy he's finally going to get a grandchild out of old Mary. The unnamed source is refusing to identify the baby's father, but let's just hope Karl Rove hasn't been making any donations to Virginia sperm banks in the last year or so.
Unfortunately, Mary and her partner live in Virginia, which has passed laws within the last two years that will deny almost all legal parenting rights to Poe because she is one-half of a same-sex couple (who couldn't get legally married if they wanted to). The laws ensure that Mary's partner will have no legal rights whatsoever in their child. The law may even nullify any wills that Mary and Heather write bestowing property (or custody) to each other. Hopefully with all of that Halliburton stock, Mary and her family will be able to afford lawyers who will do their best to get around those laws as much as possible. Rich people are lucky that way.
Congratulations, Mary and Heather.

Jossle: Wow, that's really rude and mean.

Would you prefer I hide my political leanings and write dull, journalistic posts without an ounce of feeling? Look: I am not a journalist. I have absolutely no desire to be a journalist. I make no pretense of objectivity or fairness. I am going to write what I think. At the very least you can respect that I am not writing posts that mask my personal feelings under such a pretense. Go read USA today if you want neutrality or watch Fox News if all you want to see is bombastic right wing demagoguery.

If only people would get outraged at the actual facts that were fodder for the humor.

I'm actually very happy for Mary Cheney and Heather Poe. Sounds like they've been waiting for this for quite some time. I tell you what, it has to better for a child to be born to parents who are in a committed relationship and made a decision to have a child together, rather than a child being born to a certain pantiless mom who would rather hit the clubs than tuck her kids in at night.
