One more reason not to shop at Wal-Mart: cocaine in the toy department
Filed under: Places To Go, Health & Safety: Babies, Media, Toys
A man shopping for a bike for his kid's Christmas present found a product he wasn't looking for on the shelves: a bag containing a gram of white, powdery substance that turned out to be cocaine. While scanning the toy shelves, he noticed an open pack of cigarettes. Thinking that cigarettes shouldn't be left where kids could easily found them, he picked the pack up and found about a gram of cocaine inside. That the substance was found and turned over to police was fortunate, according to the spokeswoman for the Oklahoma police department who confiscated and destroyed the cocaine. She noted that the amount discovered could be lethal for a child. "Being in the toy department, a child could easily have found it, and children will put anything in their mouths," she said.
Police currently have no suspects: "We don't really know why someone would leave cocaine, especially in the toy department of such a big department store."

You are conveying the idea that Wal-Mart put that mess(cocain) on the shelves and condones drug use. It might have been put there by a Sears or Target spy. I am not a vivid fan of Wal-Mart, but come-on. This accusation is reduclious. But then everybody wants to bring the Big Boy down, so have your say.

Or because she's about to get run over by a car because her momma set her down in the middle of a Walmart parking lot--known for white trash who can't drive their rattly old cars properly? Does the picture have anything at all to do with the story other than it's a picture of a Walmart? I don't get it.

Sheri said...It is totally unfair to say "one more reason not to shop at Walmart", it wasn't one of the employees, who are screened for drugs, that put it there. Walmart is a great place that has the lowest prices and a great selection of merchandise. If not for Walmart, we would all be paying a lot more for everything.

More than likely, it was a simple deal gone bad between employees switching shifts. If you want to look at the other side of it maybe. people make too big of a deal out of everything. Plus, there are too many people on the planet as there is! and what would be one less kid running around anyway if they did eat the cocaine? one sad family, but people die everyday for unknown reasons. It is God's way of saying that earth is getting way to overpopulated with people. So he is slimming it down a little. Go God!

Obviously, the person that wrote the story shops at Wal-Mart (hence the picture), and wasn't trying to stop people from going there because some lunatic placed his cds on the shelf while he/she shopped for christmas presents. Let's just all breathe a sigh of relief that it was discovered by a law abiding citizen and discarded of properly. Furthermore, the picture was a riot! All kids get pissed when they have to leave a toy store, and inevitably drop to the ground someplace to protest! I honestly think that taking a quick picture of her tantrum, was better than a public butt beating!! Great story and headline!!!

Donna B. said...I'm with the reader who pointed out how you endangered your child by sitting her in the middle of the parking lot. Have you ever paid attention to how people drive in parking lots? Some one could have easily been speeding through and what you thought would be a "cute" picture could have so quickly turned into the most tragic event of your life. Maybe you need to be a bit more careful in pointing fingers.

Chris said...I dont think that the headline is too bad. Im not a big shopper at walmart, and I think that this goes to show what type of people shop at walmart. Its not just for rednecks anymore! I also believe that walmart is to blame for not being as vigilant for trash. I say this being a father, imagine if your child found that cocaine and ate it, you would scream lawsuit and hunt walmart down like a modern day frankenstien. But since you didnt find it and your child is fine, we shouldnt blame walmart. Hypocritical society!

Jason said...Interesting story, even better that it happened at walmart. Glad all ended well, and no, its not an unfair title. It "could" happen anywhere, but that it was sitting on the shelf unnotticed... a lot (not all) of employees there just don't care about the customer experience. i wouldn't be shocked to find out several employees walked by, and either didn't care enough to check shelves for anything they could do, or even see it and just leave it there, not caring. death to walmart.
