Most popular baby names of 2006 announced by BabyCenter

Categories: Pregnancy & Birth, Media, That's Entertainment

I keep a careful watch on the lists of popular baby names published at the end of every year, mostly to make sure that my daughter's name (or any of the 10,000 names my wife is always throwing out for the next member of our brood) is nowhere near the list, even at the bottom.

Well, not to worry. My daughter's name isn't on there. Yet. This year's list produced by BabyCenter shows that Emma and Aiden are still the top names, although the big controversy this year is that parents are naming their Aidens with an E rather than an A (last year, Aidan with an A was the top boy's name)

There were seven new names in the Top 100. For girls, the new names were Aubrey, Juliana, Maggie, and Nevaeh (heaven spelled backward -- maybe I'll name my next daughter Lleh). The new names for boys were Brody, Miles, and Peyton. For what it's worth, here are the top five for each gender:

Boys:

1. Aiden
2. Jacob
3. Ethan
4. Ryan
5. Matthew

Girls:

1. Emma
2. Madison
3. Ava
4. Isabella
5. Kaitlyn

Be sure to check out the entire article for the rest. For example, the number 12 boy's name is Michael and the 32nd is Landon. Landon? ... holy smokes, did I miss something? Is my favorite nineteenth-century fictional father totally coming back into vogue?
