Dual baby personality
Categories: Toddlers, Development, Childcare, Media
Nolan has two personalities, it seems: Monsieur Fussypants Crankosaurus Rex and Life of the Baby Party. Carrie and her Mom tell me what Nolan does all day. Today he danced cheek-to-cheek with Elise to Raffi, and got hugged repeatedly by several little girls. He can wink and play itsy bitsy spider and make put-put noises with his truck. But when I pick him up, he mysteriously turns quiet.
"Nolan, will you show your Mom your dance?" asked Carrie's Mom, and Nolan shook his head no and buried his face in my neck.
And this is the way it is everyday. Nolan is animated by day and morose by night, the minute I come to pick him up is when the personality switch transpires. I don't know why, and yet I feel somehow responsible for the demise of Mr. Sparkly.
Toddlers are weird.

Children trust their parents enough to show them their "darker side." He doesn't need to be "on" for you. Sorry to say, this may not go away as he gets older either.
If you'd like a shot at enjoying his more outgoing side try a music class or other place where he is more apt to turn on the charm when well rested.
Good Luck!

I was thinking the same thing as LB. He knows you love him no matter what so he backs off his need to "perform".
Oliver is Prince Charming in public, flirting with just about everyone he meets, and people assume he's like that ALL the time. Nope, not even close.
