Baby left in Toys R Us
Filed under: Just For Moms, Just For Dads, Activities: Babies, Media
I have seen stories in the past about parents "forgetting" their babies in grocery stores and hardware aisles, and it really blows my mind. I am absent minded. I have found ceramic mugs in the fridge, toast in the drawer, appliances in the laundry basket. I misplace my keys and my wallet on a daily basis. But I can simply not imagine the possibility of "misplacing" Nolan. A Texan couple did just that, leaving their 3-month old baby unattended in a shopping cart. They drove home blissfully unaware, in separate vehicles, until they got home and nobody had the baby. The baby had been parked in a cart at Toys R Us for an hour and was unharmed.
I guess one could blame severe sleep deprivation, maybe?

Wow, I can't even imagine. Maybe there's something to be said for the fact that I always take the kids with me, so I would never assume DH had them. I, too, am pretty forgetful about certain things, but I think it's because my children top the list of things on my mind. I can't even imagine doing forgetting my baby. Heck, even when my kids are at school, I think of them. SOmetimes when I am watching TV after they go to bed, I start to say, "Did u see that giraffe?" to my husband. lol. My point is, the kids are the #1 (& 2) thing on my mind. I might forget my password I've known for 2 yrs or that the milk does not belong in the cupboard, but I just can't imagine forgetting THEM!

Where did they leave the cart at? Did they buy anything? Why were they at Toys r Us?
I would assume they were there to buy something for the baby so how could they forget the baby. There has to be more to the story. I can't believe that 2 parents could just forget a baby.

Messed Up Mama said...According to this article http://www.comcast.net/news/strange/index.jsp?cat=STRANGE&fn=/2006/12/19/545527.html
a family group was out shopping. It sounds like a few women and at least one man with several children. The man decided to take the kids home and let the women shop on their own. HE forgot the baby in the shopping cart. Probably because he isn't used to making sure the baby is in the car and he had other kids to deal with. No excuse really, but maybe understandable. So Mom arrived home, without the baby, and that's when they found out that no one had the baby. Luckily for them the baby was fine, and the authorities don't think it was abandonment.

Dawn said...A 3 month old in a shopping cart? Hmm.. My son is 3 months old, and I cant imagine leaving him. He is in a car seat because he cant sit upright yet. That wont happen for a few months yet. Not only that, but if the parents left the cart, and didnt see their child, I wonder what happened before they got in seperate cars. Did they have a fight and one parents stormed off? Did they abandon their child and use the forgetfullness as an excuse? Did one parent leave first? There has to be more to this story.

When my oldest son was a few months old, I left him in a grocery store parking lot (in his car seat, in the shopping cart) and drove home -- I don`t remember how far I got before I realized there was no baby in the seat behind me, and panicked. All I remember is the panic.
Fortunately, he was okay -- and no one had called the cops on me.
