Biker kills boy, claims compensation
Categories: Teens & tweens, Media
You would think that any motorist who hits and kills a child would be judged and punished by the strong arms of the law, right? Well, perhaps not in this case.A motorcyclist who hit and killed a 12-year old boy is claiming compensation for his injuries, and it's not as absurd as it sounds. The 12-year old boy had been playing "chicken" with his friends, daring each other to cross a busy road in reckless defiance of impending danger.
The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the boy, and hit him full impact. He is now claiming that the boy committed a "violent act" by running into the road.
It's just so tragic all around. I cannot imagine that the man will ever be the same - killing a child, no matter what the circumstance, would be a life-altering and devastating circumstance. And I don't understand the appeal of the reckless, scary games some children insist on playing - that choking game comes to my mind, too. It's terrifying.
I wish peace for both the motorcyclist and the family of the boy.

That is so tragic. But, assuming the motorcyclist was going the speed limit and the boy WAS purposefully running in traffic...the boy DID cause the accident. What a shame. I feel for the family of that boy as well as the motorcyclist for knowing he accidentally killed a boy.

The person, although young, was playing chicken. Whether or not you obstruct the right of way with your body, a sack of manure or your boulder head, you are obstructing the flow of traffic and the immediate thought of any vehicle operator is avoidance. Parental responsibility is another factor for this tragedy. Folks your kid was a hapless moron and you are responsible for their care, safety and actions.
The biker, who was riding at less than 50mph in a 70mph zone, suffered six broken ribs, a punctured lung, a bruised heart, a shoulder injury and ongoing psychological trauma as a result of the accident.

I read the comment about other dangerous activities and what comes to your mind "the choking game"; I receive alerts in my e mail for that phrase as I lost a son on May 6, 2005 from that high risk, thrill seeking activity.
Since losing Gabriel, over 135 children have lost their lives. Please, pass the warning on to ANYONE who has or may be in contact with children, of ALL ages.
Ignorance is anything but bliss.
